Yummy Mummy Brie: A Scary and Sweet Halloween Treat
With Halloween just around the corner, we know you are stocking up on everything sweet and spooky. But in case you haven’t heard, Kit Kat’s and Reese’s are so last year. This year, Halloween is all about the cheese. So hold onto your broomsticks and get ready to learn how to make a Mummy Brie.
As with most of our recipes, this is fairly simple to make. The main ingredients you will need are a wheel of Président Brie and frozen Puff Pastry. We recommend the Pepperidge Farm brand as it is dairy free and easily available in most super markets. The best part of this recipe is the creative liberties you can take. Once you have the brie all ready to go, you can wrap the mummy however you would like. Additionally, while we stuffed the inside of the pastry with strawberry jam and chocolate, you can change it up and put any type of fruit or candy. We used Enjoy Life chocolate chips, which is our favorite dairy-free brand. Keep in mind, that the strawberry jam seeping through the mummy does help to create a scary “blood” effect if you are trying to keep with the Halloween theme.
We hope you find this recipe as spooktacular as we do!
Yummy Mummy Brie: A Scary and Sweet Halloween Treat
Ingredients
- 8 oz Brie Wheel
- 1 package Frozen Puff Pastry
- 4 tbsp Strawberry Fruit Spread
- 1 Egg beaten
- 2 Apple Slices
- 1 tbsp Chocolate Chips
Instructions
- Take puff pastry out of freezer and defrost for 15-20 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out puff pastry. Place brie in center and cut circle around it. Set excess puff pastry to the side.
- Cover top of brie with strawberry jam and then sprinkle with some chocolate chips. Put more jam on top of the chocolate chips until they are covered. Fold pastry up around edges of brie.
- Roll out the excess puff pastry you put aside. Using a serrated knife, cut the pastry into strips. Drape strips over top of brie in mummy-like fashion.
- Brush brie with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Remove from oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes. Add apple slices for eyes with a chocolate chip on each apple as a pupil.
- Serve warm with chips or crackers.
Unlike our other baked brie recipes, the caramel apple brie and the blackberry brie, which fell under the dessert category, we placed this recipe under the appetizer category. The puff pastry definitely helps to mellow out the sweetness, providing a more fulfilling pre-dinner morsel. But be careful not to spoil your appetite because one bite will leaving you craving for more.
