National Chocolate Covered Anything Day: Brie Is Here To Stay

Get out your fountains and favorite snacks because the best national holiday has finally arrived. That’s right, national chocolate covered strawberry and pretzel day can step aside because today encompasses it all. December 15th officially marks National Chocolate Covered Anything Day. Now, we know this can be a little intimidating as there leaves so many options of things to dip, drizzle, and douse. But as brie is our game, we decided to test out the waters with chocolate covered brie. And boy are we glad we did!

Before you totally disagree, please note that we were a little hesitant before trying this out as well. With such safe options as pretzels, apples, and even Oreos, cheese may come off as quite the anomaly. But the pods as well as all those who tried it will hands down admit that chocolate covered brie is just as good, if not better, than it’s competition.

So gear up and get ready to divulge into the chocolate depths with you me and du-brie.

Supply Suggestions

As the MVP of ingredients lies within the chocolate, it is important to choose your brand wisely. If you have allergies, the Enjoy Life dairy-free chocolate chips are the way to go. We’ve used these in other recipes such as the Mummy Wrapped Brie and found it best for melting. Additionally, it tastes identical to normal milk chocolate so you won’t even know the difference.

Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with Nestle’s Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips.

Of course, Président Brie is our top suggestion. To cut the best slices, we prefer a wheel over a triangle. The slices have more of a chance of being even and you’ll have more to eat.

If you’re looking for other snacks to douse, check out what we’ve used as well.

  • Pretzel rods
  • Granny Smith Apples
  • Oreos
  • Strawberries*
  • Bananas
  • Shortbread cookies
  • Rice Krispy Treats

The Process

Using whatever chocolate you decide, pour a hefty amount into a microwave safe bowl. What we have learned with warming chocolate is it is best to add a little bit of oil to the chips prior to melting. The reason for this is to prevent the chocolate from drying and ensuring a smooth and silky chocolate sauce. Make sure you only add a small amount as you don’t want your mixture to be too watery for coating. Another suggestion is to microwave the mixture in 30 second increments, stirring in between until you reach a desired consistency.

Once accomplished, get ready for the fun part! Dip your brie and other snacks into the bowl and transfer directly onto a parchment lined baking sheet.

We winterized some of our treats with holiday sprinkles for a colorful finish but you can certainly leave out this step if you wish. If you melted a bit too much chocolate like we did, don’t fear! Spread the rest of the chocolate onto parchment paper as well and, along with the dipped treats, refrigerate for at least an hour. With the chilled leftover chocolate, you can either break it into smaller chunks OR shave the chocolate for a flaky decor to add to your platter.
