Coincidentally, today just so happens to be National Champagne Day as well. Not only does this mean it is important to incorporate the bubbly into your midnight shenanigan’s, but it also includes starting the day the mimosa way! So get out your flutes and punch bowls because it’s time to cheers and celebrate to a fresh start: 2021.

Champagne 101:

Before we get to the good stuff, we thought it best to go over a few helpful tips. First, unless you’re aiming for the ceiling or an enemy (please do not aim corks at people) we recommend keeping the cage on the top while opening the champagne. To prevent a flying cork, untwist the wire, hold the cage with your thumb, and slowly twist the bottle. Second, unless there is a desire for a champagne shower, we don’t recommend shaking the bottle either. If after reading this you think either of these ideas seem fun, we strongly advise experimenting outside. Lastly, when pouring, make sure to only fill the glass about 1/3 of the way. Not only will this save room for the foam, but it prevents the champagne from warming too quickly.

We don’t expect there to be any leftovers; however, if you need to store any champagne remnants follow this hack:

Champagne to be drank within 2-3 days: Store that bottle right in the fridge!

Champagne to be stored longer: As the cork may dry out and oxidize the wine faster, it is best keep your bottle in a cool dark place. If you don’t have a dungeon like most people, any place away from direct light or heat will do.

1. The Basic Mimosa

As the ideal go-to am cocktail, a basic mimosa is the best way to start your NYE. The fun thing about mimosas are that you can really get creative in filling your flute. To change up the shade or recipe, you can add cranberry juice or even replace the orange juice with pineapple for a twist.

Although this takes out the star of the show, a man-mosa is another option for you beer lovers out there. Instead of champagne, this rendition replaces it with a citrus beer for the perfect morning kickstart.

2. Sparkling Sangria

Although this may not be termed a mimosa, this sparkling sangria ranks best next to these morning cocktails due to its citrus and fizzy taste. Using Prosecco and Cointreau, this sangria is great to make in large batches as you can throw some fruits into the batch for a fresh décor style.

To add even more pizazz, you can add a sugar or cinnamon rim. If you decide on sugar, you can either go with regular granulated sugar or for a more chunky, crystalized look, check out coarse or sanding sugar.
