National Pizza Day: The Making of the “Briezza”

Today is the day we can put a pin in the pineapple debate and come together to celebrate America’s favorite food: Pizza. As this infamous pie is a product of parties, Friday night traditions, and the occasional $13 tattoo, no wonder it has a day devoted to it. Although the classic pizza consists of a combination of cheddar and mozzarella, we decided to change up the pie game. Our melt-in-your-mouth brie pizza (or as we like to call “briezza”) is a special twist you’ll be sorry to miss.

Brie Cheese Pizza (hold the cheese)

As you know, The Two Bries are located in New Jersey, also known as the Pizza Capital of the World. As a result, we have definitely had our fair share of quality and diverse pizza. However, when Amber developed a cheese allergy, pizza was no longer an accessible meal. Dairy free pizza alternatives do exist, such as Daiya and American Flatbread but they are extremely lacking in comparison to the real deal. Additionally, dairy free pizzas tend to be vegan, which means you can not even enjoy vegan cheese alongside some real pepperoni. Life became a bland process of ordering cheese-less pizza from the pizzeria with a pepperoni topping.

But with the realization that some cheeses can be tolerated, came the realization that pizza can once again be enjoyed, with an incredible upgrade. Thus, the briezza was born. The beauty of this brie pizza is how entirely customizable it is. You can use any cheese (allergy permitting) and any toppings that your heart desires. We may be biased, but we believe our brie-dition is the best.

Brie Pizza (Brie-zza)

Apple, Prosciutto & Caramelized Onion Brie Pizza

Whether your planning a fun family night in or a pizza party, celebrate with these naan brie pizzas! Brie-liciously dreamy as a dinner or snack idea, this recipe is a fan favorite for all!

Ingredients

  • 1 Brie wedge
  • 1 lg Naan bread or 4 small naan breads
  • 1 Granny Smith Apple
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 pkg Cubed Prosciutto
  • 1 tbsp Balsamic Glaze

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a large saucepan. Add onions and caramelize until browned, stirred infrequently.
  • Add cubed apple and prosciutto and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, place naan bread on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Add brie slices onto the bread and top with onion mixture.
  • Let cook for 10 minutes or until brie is melted and bread is warm and lightly crisped.
  • Remove from oven, drizzle with glaze, and serve immediately.

Briezza Tips

The most important ingredients (brie aside) for this recipe reside within the dough and the drizzle. For starters, naan bread is a must. Not only does it provide a soft yet crunchy bite, but it takes the cake for flatbread options. The most popular brand out there is Stone Fire, which is widely available in most stores. If you have a dairy sensitivity, however, brands such as Atoria’s and Toufayan are dairy-free and also delicious. Besides this, the only other must-try is virtually any brand of Balsamic Glaze. A fancy garnish and sweet topping alike, this glaze will set your brie-zza apart in the best way possible.
