How To Make A Brie Peanut Butter and Jelly

Get ready to channel your inner child because it is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day! Now, since we are the Two Bries In A Pod, we could not just make a classic peanut butter and jelly and call it a day. Instead, we decided to combine two childhood classics to create the ultimate sandwich, a peanut butter and jelly grilled cheese. As these two sandwiches jammed together to become one, the Brie Peanut Butter and Jelly was born, or a PBrie&J as we like to call it.

Brie Peanut Butter and Jelly Essentials

Of course you need peanut butter, jelly, and brie cheese. However, if you want this sandwich to properly elevate your taste buds, you also need to elevate your pantry basics.

The Peanut Butter

The Two Bries In A Pod often argue over which peanut butter is superior, chunky or creamy (clearly creamy is better). While some of you may be team chunky, for the purposes of this sandwich, creamy peanut butter is the way to go. We also like to choose a brand with the least amount of processed chemicals as possible. For this sandwich, we used the brand we had on hand, Shoprite brand Bowl & Basket Creamy Peanut Butter. However, for an even healthier option we highly recommend Justin’s Classic Peanut Butter Spread. Justin’s brand has only two ingredients, and does not contain anything hydrogenated or other unpronounceable words.

The Jelly

The jelly debate is even more complicated than the peanut butter debate. Is it jelly, jam, preserves or marmalade? Grape, strawberry, raspberry, or apricot? The options really are endless. At the end of the day, it is completely up to you which one you choose and it can also be fun to experiment. However, we do have some recommendations to steer you in the right direction. We advise steering away from classic jellies like Welch’s for this sandwich. If you are going to make an elevated sandwich, you need to expand your palette. We recommend a jam because the texture of the pieces of the fruit complements the sandwich nicely. We also recommend choosing a jam you would serve up with a charcuterie board as it will also complement the cheese. For our sandwich, we selected the Stonewall Kitchen Wild Maine Blueberry Champagne Jam. We also suggest using Dalmatia Fig Spread, which pairs deliciously with brie cheese. In case you missed it, we have a whole blog post that explains why brie and fig spread is the ultimate combo.

The Brie

As you know, we typically reach for the classic Président Brie. However, we like to switch it up and experiment as much as the next person. And a Brie Peanut Butter Jelly sandwich is the best time to do just that! We selected the Joan of Arc Double Creme Brie for our creation. Whichever brie you choose, we do recommend a double creme which gives it that extra little bit of melt.

The Bread

Bread is arguably the most important part of your peanut butter jelly grilled cheese combo. Ultimately, it comes down to preference, but we recommend a bread that gives thicker and sturdier slices to more effectively soak in all the goodness. As National Sourdough Bread Day was yesterday, it seemed like the perfect bread to choose, and boy were we right. In addition to being delicious, sour dough bread is one of the healthiest breads to consume, which also makes the sandwich guilt free!

Extras

Now, you can grill you sandwich up as is, or you can add some extra additions to complete the sandwich. We added a balsamic glaze drizzle on top of our brie prior to grilling which was a nice finishing touch. Some other ideas of additions you can add are fruit slices like an apple or plum, or even a drizzle of honey. However you choose to create your sandwich, let us know in the comments!
