Happy National Dessert Day: Brie-ng on the Sweets!

October 14 isn’t just like any other Wednesday. Not only is it Hump Day, today is the day that all Sweet Toother’s unite to celebrate the one and only National Dessert Day! The only day where it is acceptable to eat dessert before dinner, then eat dessert for dinner! In honor of this widely celebrated holiday, it only makes sense to discuss ways that you can incorporate the queen of cheeses into your sugar-infused schedule.

Pastries

What better way to enjoy brie than by surrounding it with carbs? Not only can you make individual pastries encased in brie, but the most popular way to puff out your brie is by wrapping the entire wheel! As an easier route to achieve this, investing in some Pillsbury Dough Crescent Rolls are a great way to skip the kneading and go straight to eating! Whether you want to cut slices and make a brie wreath for the holidays or Paper Mache your wheel in dough, it’s bound to make for a savory and delicious dessert.

Chocolate

In addition to pastries, one of the easier ways to get your brie and dessert fix is by creating a mix of your favorite delectables. That is, chocolates, brie, and anything in between. As brie has a creamy and buttery flavor, it pairs well with a dark or milk chocolate. Whether it be a candy bar or even a side fondue fountain, you can’t go wrong with a cheese and chocolate combination.

Fruits

What’s a dessert without a little healthy alternative? Together with brie, there are tons of fruits that actually pair very well to enhance the flavors in each. Either as a compote sauce or sliced and served together, here are just a few of the fruits that bring out the best flavors in brie:

  • Figs
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Pears
  • Apples

Given that these fruits have such high levels of acidity, the flavor adds a nice contrast to bring out the best velvety texture that brie has to offer. To be sure we were in on the festivities, we even made our own recipe! Check out our Easy Blackberry Brie Recipe.
