All You Need Is Love (and cheese)

Today is most certainly the day of love. While, no, it definitely is not Valentine’s Day, this holiday might actually be runner up. National Cheese Lover’s Day is the day we can fully appreciate each cheese for it’s unique flavor. It’s the day that you can splurge and indulge in all things cheesy. SO brie-ng out the crackers and get your spread on today!

To fully show appreciation for the day, what better way to celebrate than with a big cheese charcuterie!

In order to craft the ideal charcuterie, your board should have a few different types of cheeses. Luckily for you, we’re here to assist! As categorizing cheese can be a tough task to tackle, we went and simplified the list. Pick one from each category and your board will be almost as ‘grate’ as this holiday.

The Cheeses

Soft Cheeses

The most important thing to note about soft cheeses is how they differentiate from their counterpart: hard cheese. Aside from their density, soft cheeses are the way they are due to the shortened aging process they go through. From this, they are able to retain more moisture, and thus, acquire a softer texture from that of all hard cheeses.

Now, before you start choosing your cheese accents, make sure you include a brie wheel. This moldy cheese is not only a great shape for cutting into any shape you want, but it is the perfect spreadable cheese to perfect any board display.

Aside from brie, these cheeses can also fit the bill if you’re looking for an additional soft cheese to choose:

Hard Cheeses

Now for the granny cheeses (as we like to call them). As discussed above, these hard cheeses have been aged quite longer than the soft cheeses. Due to this, the moisture is significantly decreased creating a thick and sharp taste for most. Including such hard cheeses onto your board allows for a wide range of both textures and flavors to really bring out the diversity of cheeses.

Our favorite hard cheeses slighty lean toward the Italian side, but we also include some European originals as well:

  • Parmesan
  • Manchego
  • Romano
  • Cheddar
  • Gruyere

Obviously, these are not nearly all the types of hard (or soft) cheeses out there. Comment or DM us with your favorite type you like to include!

Crumbled Cheeses

Last but certainly not least, we’ve included a special category dedicated to the beloved crumbled cheeses. As crumbled is both a great special touch to fill in sparse areas and a perfect addition to add onto your cracker, check out our favorite crumbly additions:

  • Blue Cheese
  • Gorgonzola
  • Feta
  • Goat
  • Cojita

If you haven’t tried any of these cheeses, today is the PERFECT day to do so. But you certainly don’t have to limit yourself to just a charcuterie board. From quesadillas and grilled cheeses, to bread bowls and mac and cheese, your options are infinite to join in on the celebration!
