While any tequila will certainly do, we highly recommend a silver tequila for this margarita. In our opinion, the silver blends in with the flavors of the coconut milk and lime much better than a gold tequila. We went with the classic Jose Cuervo brand tequila for this recipe. We recommend going with a cheaper tequila such as Cuervo since it is going to be blended with other things.

As for the garnish, we opted for a simple display of cranberries and a lime wedge. However, if we were to make this cocktail again, we would garnish with homemade sugared cranberries for an extra pizazz of flavor and aesthetic. Additionally, feel free to garnish with some rosemary sprigs as well.

Christmas Margarita Leftovers

Did you end up blending a little too much margarita and were unable to finish your pitcher? No worries! Put that bad boy in a tight container and place in your fridge. It will stay good for about 2 weeks after making it. Just note when you take it out of the fridge after sitting, you will need to whisk and stir it a little to unsettle any separation.

Final Thoughts

This is definitely a recipe we would love to try again! We will admit, in making this recipe we did get a little tequila happy. While the recipe card says 12 ounces, we think we used closer to 16 ounces. For our second attempt, we will use a little less tequila and test out the grand marnier rather than the triple sec. And of course, the addition of sugared cranberries.

If you are looking for other festive cocktails, check out this apple and cranberry punch. While we originally made this drink for Thanksgiving, all you need to do is take out the turkey shape and it’s great for Christmas as well! Additionally, if you are looking for an appetizer to serve alongside this margarita, definitely make this cranberry brie wreath. It’s super easy and super delicious.

As always, we hope you enjoy this recipe and be sure to leave a comment or contact us if you try it out for yourself!
