How To Make Homemade Apple Butter

Two important phenomenons exist in the world of fruit spread:

1. All shelved jams have additives

Have you ever spent time in the jam aisle? Perusing the many options just to find added sugars, preservatives, and unnecessary stowaways? In order to maintain it’s billion year expiration date, these ingredients may seem pertinent to the factory-born jar of jelly. However, in making a jam itself, did you know these ingredients aren’t essential to enjoy a pristine PBrie&J? Like the classic grape jelly, we’ll have you know they aren’t a requirement for Apple Butter either!

2. A bag of apples can be a long term commitment

Just like that unworn shirt sitting in the back of your closet, apples can easily become a kitchen item that seemed ideal in the moment but you’re not sure you needed. Instead of waiting for them to brown, why not make a spreadable recipe out of them? It’s a perfect way to maximize the space in your fridge whilst creating a sweet spread to slather on your morning toast.

Whether you’re sick of those unnecessary preservatives or are looking for something else to do with your apples, this homemade Apple Butter Recipe is a tarty treat you can try with your apples.

Apple Butter, meet Brie

Aside from spreading on toast, this jam is also a perfect pair with brie as well. Below are a few different ways we’ve prepared our dynamic duo in the past:

Basic Jam addition – scoop the jam into a mini jar and add to your charcuterie board

Cookie Cutter Brie – using a wheel of brie, slice off about 1/4 inch from the top of the brie. Using a cookie cutter of choice, press into the center of the small slice. Spread your Apple Butter on the larger wheel and place outer circle of brie on top. You can use the shape cutout anywhere on your board for added decor.
