National Cocktail Day: Drink Like There’s Pinot Tomorrow

Bottoms Up! Spring just arrived and Easter is right around the corner, so naturally it is the perfect time for another alcohol related holiday. Who doesn’t love a perfectly good excuse to drink on a Wednesday? For those who don’t know, a cocktail is a drink that typically consists of a spirit (or several) and some type of juice, soda, and/or fruit. A cocktail can range from the simplicity of a Vodka-Sprite, to the complexity of a Long Island Iced Tea. So grab your cocktail shakers and mixers and let National Cocktail Day begin!

Lately we have been obsessed with margaritas, but in lieu of the Spring season, we decided to switch it up and craft a light and flirty Sweet Spring Sangria. It’s not quite flip-flop season, but this cocktail will put some spring in your step (pun intended). The brandy certainly sneaks up on you, so pour with caution if you are looking for a light midday buzz but still have some errands to run-permitted you’re not driving. If that’s the case, best wait for the nighttime to craft your concoction. If you are following along with our recipe, we chose to use green apples and lemons. However, you can choose any fruit you would like and personalize it to your taste. Next, grab your white wine of choice and flavored brandy and begin creating!

Hopefully this sangria recipe put you in the right spirits. But if you’re looking to experiment with more new and different recipes on National Cocktail Day, this is only the beginning. For some inspiration, we highly recommend the book Tequila Mockingbird: Cocktails with a Literary Twist.

This book is pitcher-full of exciting and creative cocktail recipes. And for you English nerds like Amber, each recipe is a fun pun on a literary classic with entertaining descriptions that definitely pair nicely with your drink. If you do purchase this book, be sure to check out Amber’s personal favorite cocktail “The Pitcher of Dorian Grey Goose” on page 102. For those who don’t know, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is a fantastic novel, so naturally the cocktail is as well. I’d say it can also be argued that Basil Hallward is a big fan of brie cheese.

If you are looking for another easy but refreshing spring cocktail, try our Raspberry Lemonade Frozen Margarita. All cocktails can be deliciously paired with our Alfredo Impasta for dinner.

Please leave a comment or contact us and let us know how you celebrated National Cocktail Day! We would love to hear from you and gain some drink-spiration.
