The Hibernia Diner: A Simple Yet Satisfying Sandwich Review
As a result of being hungry and in the area of Rockaway, New Jersey, The Hibernia Diner became the chosen land for a quick Sunday lunch. This newly renovated diner exudes a cozy retro ambiance. It has a bar area, plenty of booths, and even a fireplace for those cold winter days. Additionally, it staffs very accommodating waiters, adding a positive touch to the overall atmosphere. Because brie is our game, the diner’s Signature Smoked Turkey, Bacon, and Brie Sandwich is our first Brieview culprit.
The Item
This Turkey, Bacon, and Brie Sandwich was located within the Signature Section of the Sandwich menu. Once received, there were a few things to take note of. First, two slices of Ciabatta were the chosen bread for the sandwich. Second, there were multiple layers of turkey to create a panini skyscraper. And Lastly, melted brie , honey mustard, lettuce, and BACON accented the sandwich. Additionally, the meal comes with fries, a pickle, and the widely debated coleslaw as sides.
Menu Brie-vestigation
Throughout the entire scope of the menu, this signature sandwich was the only item containing brie. Because of this, the opinions of this one item are under harsh review (Queue suspenseful music).
Brie-O-Meter Rating
The Buyer: Keri
Rating: 8
Given that brie is a common cheese to pair with such a meat as turkey, I was quite excited to order the signature combo. Once served, I liked the fact that they melted the brie, plated it well, and cut it diagonally. However, as I am particular about my meats, I was not impressed with how the turkey looked as it seemed thick and lacking in moisture. Upon trying the sandwich though, it had a great flavor, capturing all that was on the sandwich perfectly. The sandwich had just the right amount of turkey and it did not taste how I perceived it would initially. I was in favor of the choice in bread and even more in favor of the choice of bacon. To compliment this, the fries were crisp and fresh. Overall, I give this meal an 8 on the Brie-O-Meter Scale. I would be very interested to see what else the diner can do with a wheel of brie.
The Tryer: Amber
Rating: 6
As I was the tryer and not the buyer of this sandwich, my review is based upon a few bites. Aesthetically, the sandwich looked tasty. Ciabatta bread is definitely one of my favorite sandwich breads, and you can never go wrong with a turkey bacon combo. However, the sandwich comes with tomatoes which is an immediate deterrent for me (I would have ordered the sandwich without them). As I took my bites, my initial reaction is the bread to filling ratio was way off. The bread was a little overwhelming, especially paired with a lack of honey mustard, which made the sandwich quite dry. The turkey was also not as moist as I would have liked. But, the melted brie did help to bring moisture back into the sandwich. Overall, I give this meal a 6 on the Brie-O-Meter Scale because despite the shortcomings, I would most likely order this sandwich the next time I visit Hibernia Diner as it was simple but still satisfying.
Overall Analysis
As a whole, we had a great experience at The Hibernia Diner. Although they could definitely add a few more brie options to their menu, the sandwich at the forefront gets an average Brie-O-Meter score of 7. As a must try option, we encourage you to check it out if you’re in the area. If so, let us know what you think by leaving a comment below or sending us a message!
